In profound sorrow, the E.M. Matthews Funeral Home family joins with the Peten family to announce the passing of Lynette Fennell Peten. The Lord called home His blessed angel from labor to reward Monday.
The obsequies celebrating the prolific and Christian life of Mrs. Peten will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Headquar-ters building, 1800 S. Slocomb St. in Goldsboro. The Rev. V.J. Hairston will provide words to inspiration. Recessing the services in the sanctuary, the E.M. Matthews classic angelic white fleet will gracefully escort the precious tabernacle of Mrs. Peten, along with her cherished family, to Wayne Memorial Park South for interment rites. Following the proceedings by the graveside, the servants of service will inter her physical vessel into the earthly resting place declared for her. Yet those that truly knew Mrs. Peten have the assurant peace, knowing that Monday the angels, ordered directly by God, descended into Wayne Memorial Hospital and informed Lynette that her Lord and Savior had watched her work so diligently here on earth. The angels then stated that the king of kings was ready for her to put on that long white robe and starry crown to join the heavenly host. For it is now that Lynette Fennell Peten is sitting around the marvelous throne praising Him all the day long in that beautiful place Jesus promised he was going away to prepare for his children.
Lynette Fennell, the daughter of the late Isabelle Fennell Smith (Donald Smith) and Donnell Raynor, entered into this life Oct. 28, 1969, in Wayne County.
Lynette was educated in Goldsboro City Schools, graduating in 1988 from Goldsboro High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in education at North Carolina Central University in 1992.
She began her teaching career at Carver Heights Elementary in August 1992. During her time at Carver Heights, she had advanced from being an elementary teacher to such distinguished titles as department chair head for fourth grade, curriculum facilitator and reading coach for Reading First program. She was also voted Teacher of the Year for Carver Heights School twice by the staff and fellow team members.
Lynette was a caring and devoted educator, who was loved by the staff and children. She remained an exemplary worker at Carver Heights until her untimely death.
Lynette was a faithful and devoted member of St. James Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, where she served as a choir member (Voices of St. James), director of Vacation Bible School and the alternate Sunday school teacher for the Young Adult Class. She was loved dearly by her church family.
Her friendly personality caused her to never meet a stranger.
Lynette was happily united in holy matrimony Oct. 6, 2001, to Keith Peten Sr. To this blessed union two children were born.
Beautiful memories will be forever etched in the hearts and minds of many such as her husband, Keith Peten Sr.; a daughter, Lauryn Peten; a son, Keith Peten Jr. "K.J." of the home; a stepdaughter, Lakeisha Peten of Goldsboro,; her fathers: Donald Smith and Donnell Raynor both of Goldsboro; a brother, Samuel Fennell (Dee) of Durham; three aunts, Pauline Flowers (Mike) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Betty Staton (Pete) of Tarboro and Janice Fennell "Sister" of Goldsboro; two uncles, Floyd Fennell and Jerry Raynor both of Goldsboro; a niece, Shantora "Shannie Boo" of Durham; two nephews, Samon and Jacolby both of Durham; her godmother, Veronica Carmichael of Goldsboro; a special sister, Ronika Jackson (Joseph); special cousins, Willa Smith, Crystal Flowers and Felicia Best; special friends, Tonya Langston, Vennie Oliver Baker and Rose Hinnant; and an overflow of other cousins and friends, whom she loved dearly.
Lynette was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Isabelle Fennell Smith; maternal grandmother, Minnie Best Fennell; paternal grandmother, Sally Raynor; mother-in-law, evangelist Brenda P. Vick; and special Tracy Flowers-King.
A time for visitation with Mrs. Peten and her family, will take place Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc., 401 N. William St. in Goldsboro. Her family will be present to receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m.
