In profound sorrow, the E.M. Matthews Funeral Home family joins with the King and connected family to announce the passing of a true woman of God, pastor Rachel White.
Pastor Rachel White 78, of 802 N. Pineview Ave., Goldsboro, was born on May 11, 1932, in Nash County, to the late Bertha Hobbs White and Willie White. She silently stepped out of her earthly tabernacle into her long white robe and golden slippers, in the early morning hours of Monday at Britthaven Nursing Home of Goldsboro. She was orphaned at an early age and was reared by her aunt and uncle Cora and Albert Arrington and Pauline Williams in Goldsboro.
Rachel attended the public schools of Wayne County and graduated from Dillard High School in 1952. She worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital for many years. She also worked for the Daughtry family and Quality Inn Hotel until her health began to fail.
Rachel gave her life to Christ under the leadership of Sister Mable Beaman and Pastor Johnny Washington, founder and Pastor of the Tabernacle of Prayer for All People. Later, she became affiliated with Bible Way Church No. 2 under the leadership of Bishop J.G. Simonton in Goldsboro. It was under this leadership that she received her call from God into the ministry. She was made assistant pastor under the leadership of elder David Wiggins and served in that capacity until 2005, when she became unable to continue in her office.
Precious memories will always be etched in the hearts and minds of many, such as her niece, Gwendolyn King (Randy) of Goldsboro; one special nephew, Leonard Owens (Antoinette) of Maryland; one sister-in-law, Lattie White Bell of Goldsboro; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, friends and extended church family.
A visitation for pastor White will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral home and Cremations Inc., 401 N. William St., Goldsboro. Services celebrating the prolific life and legacy of pastor White, will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bible Way Church in Goldsboro. Overseer C.S. Lattimore will provide words of inspiration.
Following the formal services in the sanctuary, pastor White's delicate vessel and her beloved family will be escorted to Old Mill Cemetery for interment rites. As her family will inter her natural body into her earthly resting place, pastor White's spiritual being has cross those celestial shores, where the wicked have ceased from troubling and every weary soul is at rest. The angels entered her room Monday morning and delivered a note from the Captain stating "Well done , thy good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, now I will make you ruler over many." Pastor White was then handed her pass to abroad that vessel on course for the promise land.
