DOROTHY G. MEBANE

Died Feb. 26, 2010

BURLINGTON -- Dr. Dorothy Gaither Mebane, 69, 2028 Sweetbay Circle, died Feb. 26 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

The funeral was held March 5 at 2 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home chapel in Graham. Burial was in Graham Memorial Park, with the Rev. Rodney Foxx officiating.

She was a native of Caldwell County.

She received her master's degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., but not before receiving her undergraduate degree from Bennett College and her master's degree from North Carolina College in Durham.

She held numerous medical positions prior to her retirement as a medical consultant for the Department of Social Services in Los Angeles, Calif.

She was a member of Children's Chapel United Church of Christ.

Her family and friends knew her to be a strong and determined woman, but always having a caring and generous soul, putting a smile on others' faces. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles Mebane of the home; daughters, Pamela Mebane of Elon and Matrice Mebane and husband, David, of Graham; grandchildren, Mela Williams, Christian Williams and Trinity Williams; sister, Joyce Meyers of New Jersey; and brothers, Richard Gaither, Lillard Gaither Jr. and Joseph Gaither all of New York.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillard Gaither Sr. and Mattie Caldwell Gaither; brother, John Rogers Gaither; and beloved uncle and aunt who gave their love, Elmer and Bessie Gaither.
