A homegoing celebration for mother Verna Melvin Powell, 82, 3928 Wayne Memorial Drive, who died Tuesday morning at Wayne memorial Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bear Creek Headquarters Association. She will be laid to rest in Powell Family Cemetery.
She was born May 26, 1927, to the late Spurgeon Powell and Nellie Herring in Bladen County. She was the widow of Amos Powell Sr.
She is survived by five children.
There will be a wake Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at Bear Creek Headquarters Association.
Rhodes Funeral Home of Goldsboro is handling the arrangements.
