Jay T. Jackson died Jan. 8 at Golden Living Center in Geenville.
The obsequies' celebrating Mr. Jackson's life and legacy will take place Saturday at Thompson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange at 1 p.m. The earthly resting place in which Mr. Jackson will sleep until that great getting up morning will be in Old Mill Cemetery in Goldsboro.
Jay T., affectionately called Jay or J. T., was born Sept. 13, 1928, to the late Clarence Jackson Sr. and Lena Ellis Jackson Worrells in Wayne County and was reared in Parkstown.
He was educated at Hill School in Wayne County and lived his life in Parkstown and New Hope communities, where he enjoyed working on the farm faithfully with the Edwards and Gray Families.
J. T. enjoyed going to church and loved good signing. He enjoyed Thompson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church under the leadership of the late elder Charlie G. Wilson. He also enjoyed worshipping at Shady Grove, St. Delight, Holy Temple Miracle Tabernacle, Holly Hill and Rockford Chapel, and attended faithfully until his health declined.
His hobbies included picking up cans, walking up the streets to the store on Central Heights Road, where he did odd jobs, watching his country western movies and baseball.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories a son, Billy Ray Wade of Goldsboro; his devoted sisters, Beatrice Jackson Battle, with whom he lived, Nettie Jackson Lewis of Goldsboro, Inez Wooten of LaGrange and Mamie Worrells Johnson of Harrisburg, Pa.; his brothers, George Worrells Sr. (Bertha Mae) of LaGrange and Freddie Lee Worrells Sr. (Shirley) of Dudley; a grandchild, Antoine Lane; a great-grandchild Tynore of Goldsboro; three sisters-in-law, Carrie P. Worrells and Marie Jackson both of Goldsboro and Mary Jackson of Hyattsville, Md.; two brothers-in-laws, William Bill Hobbs of Goldsboro and James Miller of Manhattan, N.Y.; a host of nieces and nephews, including Shelia and Pat Battle of the home and Melba Battle Royal of Goldsboro; other relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, George Worrells Sr.; his brothers, Carlee, Leamon, Henry Lee (Mot), James and Clarence Jackson Jr., Linwood, O. C., Kennon, J. C. Worrells and John P. Lewis; and his sisters, Louise Jackson, Leora Jackson Miller, Sarah Worrells Smith and Sennie Worrells Hobbs.
Visitation for Mr. Jackson will be held today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral establishment.
Mr. J.T.'s earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Jackson family is receiving compassionate and caring service.
