GEORGE L. PROCTOR

George Lawrence Proctor, 73, of 185 Falling Creek Church Road, died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shu-mate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Billy Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Born in Edgecombe County, he was the son of the late Samuel Joshua and Mamie Clark Proctor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lawrence; his brothers, Samuel E. Proctor, Joseph L. Proctor and William A. Proctor; and a sister, Katherine Newsome. Mr. Proctor was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a farmer, insurance adjuster and a farm equipment dealer with Wayne Implement Auction Corp.

Mr. Proctor is survived by his wife, Joyce G. Proctor; three daughters, Tonia Proc-tor Cone of Rocky Mount, Lisa Proctor Morris and husband, Keith, of Tarboro, Susan Proctor Burrus and husband, Ricky, of Tarboro; one son, Joey Hood and wife, Deana, of Mount Olive; three sisters, Helen Davenport of Tarboro, Hazel Coker of Tarboro and Ruby Swearengen of Beau-fort, S.C.; four grandsons, Michael David Proctor, Thomas Alan Cone, Chris-topher Blake Cone and Joseph Daniel Hood; and five great-grandchildren.

Family members will greet friends today from 1 until 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
