JANE M. WIGGIN

April 29, 1959-Nov. 7, 2009

NEWPORT, Maine -- Jane Maki Wiggin, RN and BSN, died at a Bangor hospital at the age of 50. She had lived with a brain tumor for 18 years to which she eventually succumbed Saturday.

The funeral service will be held at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Windham, Maine, at noon Wednesday.

Jane was born April 29, 1959, in Laurium, Mich., the daughter of Donald and Edna (Grant) Maki.

She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1977, after which she joined the Army. While in the Army she met and married the love of her life, Stephen Wiggin Dec. 16, 1978, in the Navy Chapel in Washington, D.C.

After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1979, she went to nursing school on the G.I. Bill. She graduated from the University of Southern Maine School of Nursing summa cum laude in 1993.

She was elected to Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau.

Jane had many different nursing positions throughout her career as her husband's career required several moves to different states. She always readily found a job in the nearest hospital, nursing home or clinic.

The Wiggin family always made friends in its local Assembly of God Church no matter where the family lived.

Jane had a big love of children and they seemed to flock to her. She was a Sunday school teacher and worked as a leader in Missionettes, an Assemblies program for girls of all ages. She also worked in several Vacation Bible Schools. Whatever church Jane attended, she was always involved in the children's programs, whether it be teaching Sunday school, Missionettes or Vacation Bible School.

Jane was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Matt and Esther Salo of Ironwood, Mich.; maternal grandfather, Kenneth Grant of Bergland, Mich.; and her father, Sgt. Donald Maki Bergland, Mich., with the Michigan State Police.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, Stephen of Newport, Maine, are her sons, Dan of Gorham, Maine, and Jim of Bangor, Maine; her mother, Edna Caramella and stepfather, Mario of Bergland, Mich.; a brother, Don (and sister-in-law, Colleen) Maki of Barryton, Mich.; sister, Ann Maki of St. Joseph, Mich.; sister, Brenda (and brother-in-law, Ron) O'Brien of Williamston, Mich.; her father- and mother-in-law, Elliot and Methyl Wiggin of Norway, Maine; sister- and brother-in-law, Shirley and Steven Killam of Wilton, Maine; sister-in-law, Cathy May of Lewiston, Maine; and assorted nieces and nephews.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints"
