CECIL BERNARD BRANTLEY

Cecil Bernard Brantley died on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Goldsboro with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Bailey Cemetery in Bailey.

Mr. Brantley was born May 9, 1922, in Bailey, to Rador Bernard Brantley and Gertrude Liles Brantley. He graduated from Bailey High School. Mr. Brantley enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was assigned to the Eighth Air Force in Peterboro, England. He completed 35 missions as a tail gunner on a B-17 during World War II.

Mr. Brantley graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Agricultural Science and with a MA in School Administration from East Carolina University. He served as a teacher at Rock Ridge High School, Pine Level, and North Johnston High School and retired as the principal of Pine Level Elementary School.

Mr. Brantley is survived by his twin sisters, Janice Brantley Watson of Wilson and Jean Brantley Stone of Bailey; his daughter, Susan Brantley Martin and husband, Chris Martin, of Reston, Va.; his son, David B. Brantley and wife, Pam Brantley, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Lara M. White, Amanda C. Dickerson, Scott, Kate, and Steven Brantley; and great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Owen White.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brantley was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Josephine Lamm Brantley; and five brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Brantley to the First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, NC 27530, or to the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC.
