THOMAS E. TYSON

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Thomas Earl Tyson "Tom," 59, born May 25, 1950, in Durham, died in his home Monday.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carrboro United Methodist Church in Carrboro, with the Rev. Dr. Vernon C. Tyson and the Rev. Beth Hackney Hood presiding.
Talented musician, colorful lover of life, beloved father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, Tom grew up in Goldsboro and was known for his gift of hospitality and talent as a songwriter and pianist. Tom was a stranger to no one and everyone who knew him dearly loved him and was dearly loved by him.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1972 and attended Duke Divinity School.
Tom helped found Aqueduct Conference Center in Chapel Hill in 1978, where he worked as the executive director for more than 30 years. He spent the final years of his life living in Nashville, Tenn., pursuing his love and passion for music.
He is survived by his daughters, Molly Anne Templeton and husband, John, of New York City, Mary Kathryn Tyson of Greenville and Sarah Hope Tyson of Greenville; granddaughter, Hannah Grace Tyson of Greenville; sister, Joyce Carole Carter and husband, Stan, of Vero Beach, Fla.; and brother, Kenneth Wayne Tyson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Frances Brewer Tyson.
