MELVIN K. HINES

Died Oct. 27, 2009

WINTERVILLE -- Melvin K. Hines, 78, died Tuesday surrounded by his loving family.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral chapel. Entombment will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mr. Hines, son of the late Edward and Minnie Nobles Hines, was a native of Pitt County.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean Conflict.

He attended Winterville Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Fleming Hines; son, the Rev. Dr. K. David Hines and wife, Teresa, of Mount Olive; daughter, Alice Carson and husband, Shawn, of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ashley Hines, Tyler Carson and Lindsay Carson; sisters, Gladys Corbett Avery and Barbara Joyner and husband, Harvey Lee; brothers, Pittman Hines and wife, Louise, Dean Hines and wife, Lisa, and Alton Hines and wife, Virginia; and in-laws, Annie Bruce Hines, Lorraine Hines and Irene Hines.

Mr. Hines was preceded in death by his sisters, Maggie Hines Clayton, Lillian Hines, Elma Beddard, Verna McLawhorn and Ginevra Hardee, and brothers, J.D. Hines, E.C. Hines, Morris Hines, Connie Hines and Clyde Hines.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
