WILLIAM SPEARMAN

Died Oct. 17, 2009

CLINTON -- Mr. William Howard Spearman, 74, of 4836 Taylor's Bridge Highway died Saturday, Oct. 17, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with the Revs. David McCellan and Ernest Mason officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Spearman, a native of Sampson County, was the son of the late Harold Lee and Sallie Helen Matthis Spearman. He was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church and served as a Scoutmaster for over 40 years. He retired from the National Guard with over 26 years of service and later retired from the state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Kate Currie Spearman of the home; a daughter, Brenda Matthis and husband, Larry, of Clinton; two sons, Jeff Spearman and wife, Angie, of Wilmington, Mark Spearman and Lucretia of Clinton; five grandchildren, Kayla Matthis, Cameron Spearman and Carter Spearman all of Clinton, and Sabrina and Brittany Spearman of Wilmington; one sister, Betty Best and husband, Horace, of Goldsboro; one brother, Bobby Spearman and wife, Linda, of Clinton; and his friends of 45 years and best buddy, Milton and Carol Gerock of Wilmington.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral and at other times at the home.
