Leatha Teachey Lewis, 81, of Stantonsburg, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Pikeville, with visitation afterwards. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Pikeville Cemetery.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Wayne County on Feb. 7, 1928, to the late Leon and Naomi Gurley Teachey.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna Lewis Mayo and husband, Tommy, of Walstonburg; two sisters, Mary Smith of Goldsboro and Fennittee Rouse and husband, Gerald, of LaGrange; one brother, Leon Teachey Jr., and wife, Gail, of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, Katie Johansson and husband, Eric, of Raleigh and Jessica Eddins and husband, Kevin, of Raleigh; and one great-grandchild, AnnMarie Johansson. Mrs. Lewis is also survived by her best friend, Earlene Strickland, and dearest sister-in-law, Marjorie Lewis Blizzard, along with three special nieces, Brenda Williams, Tonya Smith and Nancy Sanders.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, James "J.H." Harvey Lewis; one son, Jesse Lewis; three brothers, Manfred Teachey, Melvin "Bull" Teachey and James "Bud" Teachey.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be directed to Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Building Fund or to Monk Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund 4895 US Hwy. 258, Farmville, N.C. 27828.
