DOROTHY H. BOONE

Dorothy H. Boone, 82, 1500 King Drive, in peace and resolve, passed from this temporal sojourn Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Her life and service to God and mankind will be celebrated Sunday at 2 p.m. at Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Tate officiating. Her mortal remains will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery.
Nov. 25, 1926, Malissa and William Russell Hairston Sr. gave the world a beautiful baby girl named Dorothy Lee Hairston.
Much like the flower, Dorothy was nurtured and guided by her loving mother, growing in knowledge and wisdom as she acquired her formal education at School Street School and went on to graduate with honors from Dillard High School in 1945.
While working and finding her place in the world, Dorothy shared her heart full of love with Woodrow Burden of Goldsboro as they united in marriage. To that union, one child was born, Patricia Ann Burden.
Later, Adolph Boone of New Bern would find a special place in her heart and become her husband until his passing.
During their finest hour, flowers beautify the world with delightful aroma and vicid color. And so did flower bud Dorothy with her public service career spanning more than 30 years. She served as bookkeeper for Long's Clothing store in Washington, D.C., the School for Disabled Children in Richmond, Va., Coastal Progress Inc. in New Bern and Lightner Funeral Home and Carver Heights, Dillard and North Drive schools in Goldsboro.
She was friendly and nurturing as she spread beauty in an around the work place.
At the age of 15, she was baptized and became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She served as the chairman of the Young-At-Heart ministry and was a member of the Widow's Mite ministry. She was active in many community events including the Community Chorus and spent numerous hours enjoying her family and friends as well.
While living in New Bern, Dorothy also enjoyed a strong spiritual fellowship with the AME Zion Church.
Mrs. Boone leaves a legacy of love to her daughter, Patricia Burden of the home; two brothers, William Russell Hairston Jr. of Falls Church, Va., and retired Col. Charles Hairston (Patricia) of Jacksonville, Fla.; three nieces, Ann Marie Hairston of New York, N.Y., Charlene Hill (Donald) of San Diego, Calif., and Margaret Kim Walkley (Rieck) of Woodland Park, Colo.; three nephews, Michael C. Hairston (Deborah) of Aurora, Colo., Stephen G. Hairston (Maureen) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Anthony H. Hairston of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one aunt, Ernestine Pradia of Victorville, Calif.; loving caregivers, Lillie King, Annie Shields and Peggy Waters; and friends from all walks
of life.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries of Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends at other times at the residence where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
