ARETTA F.Y. "FRAN" MASON

PRINCETON -- Aretta Frances Yarbrough "Fran" Mason, 83, passed away July 7 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro following a brief illness.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Princeton Cemetery.

Fran was born Jan. 22, 1926, in Caswell County to the Rev. Algie and Fannie Barker Yarbrough.

Fran was educated in Caswell County schools and was a graduate of both Campbell University and Wake Forest universities. She was a lifelong educator, having taught high school in a number of school systems in North Carolina and retiring as assistant principal in the Fort Bragg School System at Fort Bragg.

She attended Princeton Baptist Church in Princeton.

Fran had great interest in music and was a wonderful pianist. She loved to read and was a member of a book club in Smithfield. She enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching, especially the bluebirds in her backyard. She greatly enjoyed her family and dear friends and adored her cat Wylie.

She is survived by two sisters, Lila Powell and husband, James, of Blanch and Bradeen Fisher and husband, Ron, of Humboldt, Iowa; four nephews; one niece; three stepchildren; and her brother-in-law, Frank Mason and his family.

She will be greatly missed by her sisters and their families, her extended family and friends and Wylie.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, William Donald Mason.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC, 27534-1768.
