TIMOTHY J. HOWELL

Died June 27, 2009

Timothy Jarman Howell, 61, 332 Stoney Hill Road, died peacefully Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

A service to celebrate the life of Tim was held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Neal Wingfield officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Wayne Memorial Park.

A native of Wayne County, Tim was the son of Frances Robinson Howell of Goldsboro and the late Oscar Jarman Howell Jr.

He worked as a service technician with AT&T with 30 years of service. Tim was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church and for many years, was a member of the church choir. He was also a member of Goldsboro Elks Lodge 139 B.P.O.E.

Tim was a graduate of Campbell University, where he attended on a baseball scholarship.

Tim was a wonderful and caring father, which could be seen in the quality time he spent following his children in sports. Tim enjoyed God's beauty outdoors, as was reflected in the appearance of his yard, and even though he loved playing golf, it was the comradeship of being with his family and friends on the golf course that he enjoyed most.

Tim served his country in the United States Army Airborne Division, a veteran of the Vietnam War. Tim will be remembered by his many friends for his quick wit and dry humor.

In addition to his mother, Tim is survived by a very loving and caring wife of 38 years, Mary Ann Simpson Howell; his children, Lauren Moity and husband, Sebastien, of Raleigh and Jarman Howell and wife, Jill, of Goldsboro; his brother, Christopher R. Howell and wife, Paula, of Greensboro; his grandson, who he loved and adored and nicknamed "Highway," Christian Howell; and many nieces and nephews.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the building fund of Salem United Methodist Church, 2706 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro, NC, 27530, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC, 27534.

The Howell family would like to thank its family and many friends for the love and care shown to them during Tim's illness. May God bless each of you.

Pallbearers will be Marshall Smith, Griff Howell, Fred West, Steve Herring, Eddie Stewart and George Codgell.

The family received friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. today at the funeral home, and will be at the residence at other times.
