SNOW HILL -- Louise Brown Swinson, 91, lovingly known by her family and church friends as "Granny," 3023 Shine Road, her earthly life's journey ended peacefully Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Invitation A.M.E. Zion Church, 1356 Griffin Road, Snow Hill, with the Rev. Theodore Woolridge officiating. Burial will follow in Snow Hill Cemetery, Kingold and SE 2nd Street, Snow Hill. A viewing will be held Wednesday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, from 1 to 5 p.m. Also, a wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church, Invitation A.M.E. Zion Church, 1356 Griffin Road, Snow Hill, with the family present to receive other family members and friends.

Louise was born in Hyde County May 10, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Columbus Brown and Fannie Hudson Brown.

Louise was the seventh sibling of 10 children -- five sisters, Bertha Swinson, Ida Lucas, Lucy Barfield, Florida Smith, Florence Smith and four brothers, Leonard, Jeff, Marvin and Columbus, all who preceded her in death.

She attended school in Greene County. After matriculating in the school system, she met and married the love of her life, Marcellous Swinson Sr., and to this union 12 children were born. They were blessed with eight daughters and four sons.

Two sons, Marcellous Swinson Jr. and Quinton Leon Swinson and two daughters, Kathleen B. Smith and Mary Linda Swinson, preceded her in death.

Louise leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mercie S. Edwards and husband, Lafayette, of Snow Hill, Mallie S. Smith of Goldsboro, Billie S. Vines of Jamaica, N.Y., Edwina Exum and husband, Leaman, of Kinston, Herny C. Swinson of Jamaica, N.Y., Charles L. Swinson and wife, Shirley, of Charlotte, Wanda S. Burt and husband, Charles, of Vista, Calif., and Jacqueline S. Parks and husband, Wilbert, of Snow Hill.

"Grand Ma" or "Granny," affectionately called by her grands, leaves to cherish her memory 32 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, all of who she loved dearly.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Louise B. Swinson, 3023 Shine Road, Snow Hill.
