MALCOLM W. YATES JR.

Malcolm Walser Yates Jr., 80, passed away Tuesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Martin Armstrong and the Rev. Tim Renner officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
Malcolm was born in Cumberland County on Aug. 20, 1928, to the late Malcolm W. Yates Sr. and Gladys Lane Yates.
He retired as a building superintendent with T.A. Loving Co. after 42 years of service and had served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Malcolm was a charter member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Malcolm is survived by his wife, Lena Preddy Yates; his daughters, Linda Carol Yates Renner and husband, the Rev. Tim Renner, of Woodbridge, Va., and Judy Lynn Yates Culbreth and husband, Andy, of Wilmington; his son, Mark Daniel Yates and wife, Leesa, of Winston-Salem; his stepmother, Ernestine Yates of Fayetteville; his sisters, Gladys Mae Yates Warren of Goldsboro and Lou Grissom of Wilmington; his brothers, Wayne Yates of Charlotte and Michael Yates of Richmond, Va.; and nine grandchildren.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 200 E. New Hope Road, Goldsboro, 27530.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
