VIRGINIA D. CHERRY

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. -- Mrs. Virginia "Ginny" Dawson Cherry, 73, formerly of Mount Olive, died on Wednesday at the Franke Home at Seaside in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Ginny was born on March 4, 1936, in the Stantonsburg community of Greene County, the daughter of Tom and Lucille Dawson.

She graduated from St. Mary's School in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She retired in 2005 after teaching at Wayne Country Day School and Brogden Elementary for 25 years.

In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Dawson.

She is survived by her children, Col. M.C. Stephen Cherry IV and wife, Laurie, of Manassas, Va., Dawson L. Cherry and wife, Molly, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Virginia Cherry Powell and husband, Ben, of Blowing Rock; her grandchildren, Hunter Boyles, Jordan Cherry, Savannah Cherry, Nathan Powell, Drake Powell, Genevieve Powell and Oliver Powell; and a sister-in-law, Judy J. Dawson of Stantonsburg.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Snow Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Goodwin officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 1:45 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, 117 N.W. Third St., Snow Hill.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill.
