ISAAC DEES JR.

SWANSBORO - Isaac Dees Jr, 88, died Thursday in Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern.

Ike, as he was known by all, was born in Fremont to the late Isaac and Minnie Whitley Dees. He was preceded in death recently by his twin sister, Minnie D. Etheridge. Other family members preceding him were sisters, Winnie Bruton and Della Yelverton; brothers, Dred and James Dees.

He attended Randolph Macon Military Academy where he was an outstanding athlete and captain of the baseball team. Called to active duty in World War II, Ike served in the Army in the South Pacific and was awarded two Bronze service stars.

Mr. Dees was proud to be a member of the 'greatest generation' and put his heart and soul in every job he undertook. He returned to his native Fremont after the war to work as a farmer and merchant. Children and animals were a great love for him and he excelled in fishing and gardening attesting to his great love of nature and the outdoors. Being Fire Chief of Fremont was a volunteer service he enjoyed. Moving to Swansboro in later years, he enjoyed construction work and being a condominium manager.

Funeral services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., Elmwood Cemetery, Fremont. Following the benediction, all are invited for a time of sharing and remembering at the Fremont United Methodist Church until 3:30 p.m.

Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Canady Dees; daughter, Amelia Killette and husband, David, of Swansboro; sons, Thomas "Ted" Dees of Swansboro and Isaac Dees, III, and wife, Diane, of New Bern. He will also be missed by a special aunt by marriage, sister-in-law, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
