Died Nov. 22, 2006

ROSE HILL - Alex Brown, 93, of the Greenevers community, died Wednesday at Duplin General Hospital, Kenansville.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. from the New Christian Chapel Baptist Church, Highway 11, with the Rev. Reginald A. Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a life-long member of New Christian Chapel Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacon board. He was president of the BTU Middle District executive board, served as past Trustee of James Sprunt Community College, first black Mayor of the Town of Greenevers, member of the Weeping Willow Lodge #127, past member of Duplin General Hospital Board, and received the Governor's award of the Long Leaf Pine.

He was survived by one daughter, Doretta Bridgers of Rose Hill; four grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends today from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home Chapel.
