WILLIAM 'BILLY' SCOTT

Dec. 8, 1920 - Nov. 15, 2006

William Luther "Billy" Scott Jr., 85, of 220 Sandhill Drive, died Wednesday at his home. A retired farmer, he was born in Wayne County to the late William L. and Fannie Blackman Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, May Bell Sutton Scott; a sister, Gertrude S. Spangler; and four brothers, Buck, Raymond, Shorty and Tommy Scott.

A lifetime member of Providence United Methodist Church, he was a member and past president of the Men's Sunday School Class, a member of the Men's Club and had served on numerous committees throughout the church. He was instrumental in chartering the Southern Wayne Sanitary District and served on its board of directors for over 35 years. He was a charter member of Mar Mac Volunteer Fire Department where he retired with over 20 years of service and was the past president of the Wayne County Fireman's Association.

He was a former member of the Wayne County Planning Board, past chairman of the Tri-County EMC Board of Directors, past member of the Board of Directors with Wayne County Farm Bureau and the Wayne County Forestry Association.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jean Hood and the Rev. Dr. Jerry A. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Emma Jean Kilpatrick W. Scott; four sons and daughters-in-law, William Luther, III "Buddy" and Marie Scott of Dudley, Vernon E. and Claudette Scott of Lincolnton, James L. "Jimmy" and June Scott of Goldsboro, Gary M. and Brenda Scott of Goldsboro; sister, Margaret S. Waters of Goldsboro; brother and sister-in-law, Rodney G. and Verna Scott of Goldsboro; stepchildren, Sue W. McClenny and husband, Charlie, of Mount Olive, Pam W. Darveaux and husband, Robert, of Phoenix, Ariz., Murray C. Williams, Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Clayton, Bobby J. Williams and wife, Beverly, of Mount Olive, Belinda W. Blinkoff and husband, Robbie, of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, Allison Michelle Scott, Lisa Scott Knoll and husband, Dave, James Ledell Scott, Jr., Rebecca Scott Reynolds and husband, Jimmy, Emily Scott Fonseca and husband, Jose, and Joshua Logan Scott; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Marie Scott and Kimberly Brooke Scott; 13 step-grandchildren, Portia Hardy, Laura Crumpler and husband, David, Charles Murray McClenny and wife, Meredith, John Robert McClenny, Pashanta Adams Buchheit and husband, Ezekiel, Robert Mason Darveaux, Jackson Henry Darveaux, Robert Phillip Williams and wife, Heather, Jason Scott Williams and wife, Beth, Samantha Ann Williams, Austin Murray Williams, Shayna Rose Blinkoff, Max Abraham Blinkoff; ten step-great-grandchildren, Jenny Knoll, Geordi Brown, Abigail Brown, Tyler Crumpler, Morgan Crumpler, Malachi Buchheit, Zimzy Buchheit, Leif Buchheit, Darwin Buchheit, Gracie Olivia Braswell.

Family members will greet friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Communion Fund at Providence United Methodist Church, 202 Providence Church Road, Goldsboro, 27530.
