WILSON - Relmond Carl "Hambone" Smith Jr., 81, died Thursday. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Mumford will officiate.
He retired from the City of Wilson where he served as Captain in the Fire Prevention Bureau and City Safety Inspector. He also retired from the County of Wilson where he served as Emergency Management Coordinator.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, John Relmond Smith Sr. of Beaufort, Benjamen Michael Smith of Fountain; two granddaughters; a grandson; two sisters, Marjorie Borger of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Edwina Lehr of Hampstead, Md.
The family will receive friends 12 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and at other times the family will be at 5509 Stubb Lane.
