Shelvy Jean Waters Britt Perry, 70, of 1309 Crow's Foot Road in the Grantham community, died Thursday night at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Tyndall Funeral Chapel in Mount Olive with the Rev. Chris Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Daughter of the late George Daniel Waters and Clara Belle Rogers Waters, she was a native of the Scott's Store community in Duplin County. She was a homemaker, farmer's wife, and seamstress, having worked in various sewing factories in Mount Olive, Newton Grove, Calypso and Goldsboro. She attended the Manley's Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church and Sunday school and was active in its ladies' auxiliary. Also, she was a member of the Grantham Lodge of the Woodmen of the World where she was a lodge trustee.

She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Britt Oates and her husband, Martin Oates of Faison; three sons, Vernon Britt and his wife, Jennifer Britt, Jerry Britt and his wife, Gina Britt, and Keith Britt and his wife, Christina Britt, all of the Grantham community; her former husband and the father of her children, Ellis W. "Jim" Britt of the Grantham community; a brother, Billy Waters of the Scott's Store community near Mount Olive; a sister, Gaynelle Waters Covington of Goldsboro; and seven grandchildren, Michelle Britt Hope and husband, Brian, Lydia Britt, Sabrina Britt, Andrew Britt, Austin Britt, Isaac Britt and Daniel Britt, all of the Grantham community.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Perry was preceded in death by her second husband, Arthur Perry, and a brother, Sherwood Waters.

Her family received friends on Saturday night at the funeral home, and at other times they will gather at the Vernon Britt home, 371 Manley's Grove Church Road, Mount Olive.

Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive is handling the arrangements.
