RUTH HANDLEY

Ruth Wright Handley, 78, passed away Saturday at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Memorial services will be conducted at W. Market St. United Methodist Church in Greensboro Monday at 3 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Va. At 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mrs. Handley was born in Norfolk, Va. to the late Ruth Dalby Wright and Herman Linwood Wright. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Albert H. Handley Jr., presently living in Greensboro.

A homemaker, she is survived by three daughters, Glenna Wright Handley and husband Douglas Wright of Newborn, Ga. Elizabeth Handley Berner and husband John R. Berner, of Winter Park, Fla., and Ruth Dalby Handley of Atlanta, Ga., as well as three grandchildren, Shannon Wright, Matthew Berner, and Meredith Berner.

A Norfolk native, Ruth graduated from Maury High School in 1946 and Mary Washington College in Fredricksburg, Va. in 1950. In 1952, she was married to Albert H. Handley, originally of Goldsboro. She lived in both Goldbsboro and Greensboro. She left behind her first cousins, Natalie Dodson May and Wilson Dodson, both of Norfolk.

Ruth can best be remembered for her love of fine art, ballet and classical music. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. A life long member of the Methodist Church, she belonged to Ghent Medical Church in Norfolk, Va., St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Goldsboro, as well as W. Market St. United Methodist Church in Goldsboro.
