Mamie Howell Davis, 86, formerly of Grantham, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. She was born in Wayne County to the late Willie & Rosa Tadlock Howell and was married to the late Walter Davis. Mrs. Davis attended St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Church of God of Prophecy in Grantham.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Pollock will be officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by two daughters and son-in-laws; Brenda Bradshaw and husband, Rommie, Joyce McCullen and husband, Charles, and son-in-law Philip Lewis; two brothers, Martin and Roger Howell; one sister, Myrtie Mozingo and two great-grandchildren, Stephanie Rose Bradshaw & Brittany Renee Thornton.
Mrs. Davis is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Ray Davis and wife, Annie, and Robert Davis and wife,Joyce, all of Grantham; one daughter, Shirley Lewis of Portsmouth, VA; one brother & sister-in-law, Howard Howell and wife, Mildred, of Grantham; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends immediately following the funeral service on Thursday and at other times at the home of her son, Robert Davis, 268 King Rd., Goldsboro 27530.
