WARSAW - Charles Edward Greenhill,75, retired Blue Cross Blue Shield executive of Louisiana and Tennessee, died on Monday at his home on 304 East Hill Street, Warsaw. He was the son of the late Linwood Greenhill and wife, Rosa Parker Greenhill and the grandson of the late Noah Webster Greenhill and wife, Carrie Robinson Greenhill of Durham. He was preceded in death by a brother, Linwood L. Greenhill of Baton Rouge, LA; and a sister, Jeanette Greenhill Martinez of Columbia SC.
Funeral services will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Warsaw Presbyterian Church at 203 East Hill St., Warsaw. The Rev. Ben Burrows will officiate. Graveside services with full Masonic rites will follow at Devotional Gardens, 1428 Hwy. 24/50 East, Warsaw.
He is survived by his wife Susan Abbott Greenhill of the home and two sons, Charles Richard Greenhill and wife, Suzanne of Snow Camp and David Edward Greenhill of Alexandria, VA.; grandchildren, Kara Greenhill McWatty and husband, James Ashley McWatty of Cary and Zachary Richard Greenhill of Snow Camp; two brothers, Claude E. Greenhill and wife, Joan of Tampa, FL and Louis Greenhill of Durham; aunt, Jacqueline Baars Greenhill of Wilmington; sister-in-law, Ruby Greenhill of Baton Rouge, LA; cousins, Delores Cotton of Morrisville, Celeste Dowell of Leland, Pam O'Briant of Stem, Roy Olive of Chapel Hill, Dennis Greenhill of Durham, Robert Greenhill and Anita Woodall, both of Raleigh and Joyce Keller of Wilmington. He leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Greenhill was a member of the Warsaw Masonic Lodge #677, a member of the Lion's Club in LA, a member of the Numismatic Society and the Civil War Society. He worked with the Boy Scouts and helped support "Magnolia House", home to 'Special Adults' in Baton Rouge, LA. He played baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates in his early years and loved playing exhibition games each year with the Major League "Old Timers" Charity Baseball League of Tennessee and Georgia while supporting and raising money for the 'Special Olympics.' He was a US Veteran of the Korean War.
Family night will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw, 1654 Hwy 24/50 East, Warsaw.
