MOUNT OLIVE -- Benjamin Murry Greenfield, age 74, of 3059 Old Mount Olive Highway, passed away on Sunday at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Oak Forest Church of Christ in Goldsboro. Mr. Robert Goff and Mr. Lennie Reagan will officiate. Entombment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Greenfield (Murry) was born on January 6, 1932. He was the only son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Julia Whitehead Greenfield. He was a member of the Oak Forrest Church of Christ. He served there as an usher and a Deacon until his health declined.

His survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Ward Greenfield; one daughter, Sherry G. Mack; one son, Major Benjamin Greenfield Jr. USAF, two grandchildren; three sisters, Avery Moore of Florida, Vivian Jean of Williamstown, New Jersey and Ruebenna Flack of Charlotte; a host of nieces and nephews; and many other close relatives and special friends.

He was a 1950 graduate of Carver High School in Mount Olive. After graduation and a semester at Howard University's engineering school, he left to serve his country in the US Army at Fort Jackson, S.C..

After starting a family while maintaining the family farm, he dabbled in several private and entrepreneurial business ventures. This included co-owner of a mobile home park development company (GRENEL, Inc.), being an inventor (2 patent candidates) and working as an electrical technician at the Heavy Duty Corporation. He was a contracted turkey producer with Goldsboro Milling Co.

A wake service will be held Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro and other times at the residence.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be directed to Oak Forest Church of Christ Building Fund, 2705 North Park Drive, Goldsboro, 27534.
