LUCILE L.B. STRAUSSER

Lucile Lofland Boyd Strausser, 99, passed away Friday at the Brian Center in Goldsboro.
A graveside service was held Monday at 2 p.m. at Mexia Cemetery in Mexia, Texas with the Rev. Bill Wright Sr. officiating.
She was born April 18, 1907, in Mexia to Tandy Osro and Lula Mae Beckham Lofland.
After graduating from high school in Jacksonville, Texas in 1923, she attended the University of Texas and received a B.S. degree in psychology with honors from the University of Montana. She worked for the U.S. government as a secretary for 37 years and among her duties, she was proud to take the depositions of returning Vietnam POWs at March Air Force Base, Calif., and worked on a beginning secret U-2 spy plane project as secretary.
She enjoyed her travel to Europe and Mexico. At 70 years old, she took up oil painting and painted more than 100 beautiful rural Texas scenes and made many afghans and hooked rugs for friends and relatives. Mrs. Strausser rode her stationary bicycle more than 17,000 miles by age 95. She played tennis well, tapped danced and loved ballroom dancing and was a wonderful grandmother to her granddaughter Megan.
She was active in many organizations including DAR for 50 years plus, Psi Chi, Beta Sigma Phi and Magna Carta Dames.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tandy Osro Lofland; mother, Lula Mae Beckham Lofland; sister, Eleanor Lofland Byron; first husband, Harold Noble Boyd; husband, Judge David N. Strausser; a sister-in-law, Aileen Lofland; and grandparents Matthew C. and Martha Jane Turner Lofland and J.J. and Lula Womack Beckham.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Kent Burns of Goldsboro; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Megan and Sean McWhorter of Houston, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Tandy and Aileen Lofland of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Carolyn Lofland Hart.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Crone's Disease Foundation in Megan B. McWhorter's name.
Porter Funeral Home of Mexia handled the arrangements.
