SNOW HILL -- Ruby Turnage Chase, 72, passed away Tuesday at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Hollamon officiating. A committal service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Snow Hill Cemetery.

A native of Greene County, she was born Oct. 22, 1933, the daughter of Sidney and Tinny Lee Turnage. Mrs. Chase was a talented seamstress and operated Ruby's Curtain Room for many years where she specialized in drapery and curtains.

In the most recent years, she had worked with the cafeterias of the Greene County Schools, until declining health forced her retirement earlier this year. Mrs. Chase was a member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Durwood Turnage and Willie Turnage.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gurney Lee "Bud" Chase; a daughter, Beverly Chase Howell and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley Howell, Tammy Rena Owens and husband, Mike, and James Christopher Adam Howell of Snow Hill; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Brooke Owens; sisters, Trudy Browning and Jean Anderson of Goldsboro and Annette Beaman and Mollie Gray of Snow Hill; and a brother, Donald Turnage of Farmville.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service and other times at the home, 997 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 145 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill, 28580.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service.
