JAMES L. HARDY

April 12, 1919-Sept. 29, 2006

James Luby Hardy, 87, of LaGrange, died Friday in Kinston. He was born in Institute to the late Logan Donald Hardy Sr. and Ida Measley Hardy. He lived in Institute all his life and was active in various businesses and management of family farms. A founding trustee of Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston, he served on the school's board for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rheubelle Herring Hardy; sons, Dr. James J. Hardy and his wife, Marguerite, of Charlotte and Dr. David H. Hardy of Cary; sister, Grace Hardy Rains of Princeton; and uncle, Ralph Measley of La Grange. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Logan Donald Hardy Jr., Stephen Parker Hardy II and Ray Moseley Hardy.

Visitation was 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Rouse Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with Dr. Mallie Hinnant and the Rev. Robert E. Hardy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Arendell Parrott Academy, 1901 Dobbs Farm Road, Kinston, N.C. 28504. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, 108 N. Caswell St., LaGrange.
