Died Sept. 29, 2006

Carl Elmore "Jack" Thigpen, 79, died unexpectedly Friday.

Born in Wayne County to the late Ronald and Viola Carter Thigpen, he was a retired mechanic and farmer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy Summerlin Thigpen of Warsaw.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Thigpen, of the Magnolia home; two daughters, Winnie T. Haddock of Hookerton and Judy T. Leonard of Kenansville; two stepdaughters, Mona Hope of Rose Hill and Teresa Bostic of Summer, Wash.; two stepsons, Robert Branson of Puyalalup, Wash., and Ronald Branson of Summer, Wash.; two sisters, Marie Malpass of Goldsboro and Annie Louis Sutton of Scotts Store; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Faith Independent Baptist Church in Magnolia, with burial to follow in Devotional Gardens. A visitation will be held from 7 until 9 today at the Community Funeral Home in Warsaw.
