James LaFayette Newsome, 82, died Saturday at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the Rev. Bill Braswell officiating. Entombment, with military honors, will be in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Newsome was a son of the late Oscar LaFayette and Lou Aycock Newsome. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was an active member of the Selma American Legion and the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Starling Newsome; daughter, Teresa Newsome Bondurant of Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, Joe Newsome of Fayetteville, Albert Newsome of Clayton and Bill Newsome of Selma; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.
