Died July 27, 2006

Thomas Gordon Thompson, 87, of 124 E. Walnut St., died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Thompson graduated from North Caro-lina A&T University and retired from Cherry Hospital. He worked at Carolina Shoe Repair for over 40 years and was the owner of the business for 10 years. He was a member of the First African Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for 38 years.

He served in the United States Army and was awarded the American Campaign Medal for service within the American Theater, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, The WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by two daughters, Dorisenia Thompson of Goldsboro and Natalie Haywood of Sacramento, Calif.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at the First African Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Louis Leigh Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at 4 on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Family Cemetery, Lumberton.

The viewing hours will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Saturday at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries.

The family will receive friends at all times at the Poetic Shangri-La Book Store & Coffee shop 116 E. Walnut St.

They request that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Thompson's memory be made to the First African Missionary Baptist Church, 803 Harris St., Goldsboro, N.C.
