Paul Ronald "Pete" Petras, 65, of 2535 Stevens Mill Road, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Petras was born in New Brunswick, N.J. to the late Paul and Kathryn J. Petras. He retired from the United States Air Force on December 1, 1979 with the rank of technical sergeant and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. After his military career, he began working with the Boy Scouts of America as district executive and retired in 2000.

Mr. Petras was a member of Selah Christian Church. An avid golfer, he was a charter member of the Goldsboro Golf Club.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Muston and the Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Petras is survived by his wife, Linda Butler Petras; his daughter, Rebecca Dinsmore and husband, Steve, of Hillsborough, NJ; his sons, Ronald Petras and wife, Dana, of Bellmead, N.J., and Randy Pipkin and wife, Sandra, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Brandi Pipkin, Cody Pipkin, Jessica Dinsmore, Amanda Dinsmore, Payton Petras and Quinn Petras; his brother, Richard Petras of Florida; and his sister, Phoebe Ader of New Jersey. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steve and Janice Butler, and Ted and Barbara Butler, all of Goldsboro; and several special nieces and nephews.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Selah Christian Church, 3304 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 until 7 p.m. and immediately following the service, and other times at the residence.
