GEORGE M. SAVAGE

Jan. 8, 1936-May 10, 2006

George Marshall Savage Sr., 70, of 204 W. Tarklin Drive, died Wednesday at his home after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Fred Clarke officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Savage was born in Wayne County to the late Herbert Savage and Dora Mae Fulghum Savage He served in the United States Air Force and worked in the auto parts business in LaGrange for 25 years. In recent years he worked with his son in the lawn maintenance business.

Mr. Savage was an elder in the First Christian Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in LaGrange.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margie Whaley Savage; his son, George Marshall Savage Jr., and his wife, Stacy, of Goldsboro; two daughters, Sharon S. Freeman, and her husband, Mark, of Goldsboro and Kelly S. Mallard and her husband, Keith, of Oxford; three sisters, Dorothy S. Hackman, Teenie S. Wilson and Alice J. Savage, all of Goldsboro; one brother, John D. Savage of Williamsburg, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Jessica, Stevie, Kenneth, Josh, Jordan, Catherine and Lillian.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Sonny Savage, and three sisters, Elsie Davis, Mickey Lingle and Bertha Bryant.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial gifts can be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 1609 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times, at the residence.
