Zachariah Harris Jr., 84, of 1706 Middleton Road, died Monday at the Brian Center.

Mr. Harris was born in Hertford, North Carolina, on January 23, 1922, to the late Zachariah Harris Sr. and Mary Brinkley Harris. He was a former superintendent of the Florida Council for the Blind and also retired as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of North Carolina.

Mr. Harris was a member of Goldsboro Elks Lodge #139 B.P.O.E., the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He also was member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he had served as a council member, was a member of the Men's Club, and sang in the choir.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Vogel Harris; his sons, Rev. Zachariah Harris III and wife, Karen Harris, of Wildwood, Fla., and Dr. Mark Frederick Harris and wife, Dr. Nancie Harris, of Canonsburg, Pa.; his brother, Jesse Lee Harris; his grandchildren, Grace, Anna, and Luke Harris, and Brittany and Ryan Morrill.

The funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with the Rev. William E. Ordelt Jr. presiding. Burial, with miliary honors, will be in Wayne Memorial Park..

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, (Shepherds Reach Fund), 532 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
