DUDLEY --Anthony Ganes "Goat" Lane, 79, of Dudley, succumbed to his battle with a short-term illness at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on Thursday, April 27, 2006.

After years of dedicated service unto the Lord, he is sure to reign in Heaven.

Mr. Lane was born September 8, 1926, to the late Jule L. and Edna Mozingo Lane who were from Mount Olive.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Rose Lane of the home; one son, Anthony W. "Tony" Lane and his fiancée, Tracy Grimes, of Mount Olive; and three grandsons, Kaleb Lane, Tommy Thompson, and Drake Thompson, all of Mount Olive. Other survivors include a sister, Inez Lane Turner of Mount Olive; a brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Judy Lane of Pikeville; another sister-in-law, Janice Lane of Mount Olive; two nieces, Tammie L. Strickland of Mount Olive and Cristy L. Goodwin and her husband, Jonathan of Calypso; two nephews, Scott Lane of Greenville and Michael Lane and his wife Stephanie of Pikeville; several; great nieces and great nephews, as well as many other relatives, church family, and many, many special friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lane was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph J. Lane and Alton "Tootie" Lane; a sister, Elouise L. Flood; and a nephew, Timothy Alton Lane.

On December 13, 1949, Mr. Lane began a career with Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation. His duties began on a right-of-way crew, and through years of dedication and an unending work ethic, he worked his way up the chain of command and was appointed foreman supervisor of a power line construction crew. To this co-op, he dedicated 42 years of service before retiring on January 2, 1990. He was a longtime member of Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where, in his years as a member, he served as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school class president, church trustee, deacon, and a member of the choir.

In addition to church activities, he enjoyed good food, especially barbecue and fish. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and Tar Heel basketball, and he took great pride in his garden, and was once known to have the best potatoes in Wayne County. He loved his dog, Bear, and his son's dog,, Plug, and the rabbit dogs. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2006, in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home. The Rev. Willard Hardison and the Rev. Pauline King will officiate. Entombment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, 2006, beginning at 6:30 p.m. . at the funeral home, and at other times, at the home of his son, Tony Lane at 206 Tarheel Drive, Mount Olive.

The family welcomes floral tributes, or memorial gifts are requested to be sent to Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Donald Edwards, 107 Spring Street, Dudley, N.C., 28333.
