LELAND -- Ralph L. Walker, Jr. of 10264 Cornwallis Circle, Leland died Saturday at a local hospice, where he had been a patient for several days.

He was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Brunswick, Ga., the son of the late Ralph L. Walker Sr. and Pearl Gale Walker.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, having served for 20 years. He was the assistant general manager with Shenandoah Life Insurance Co. and the owner and operator of J.H. Croaker.

He was a member of St. John's Lodge 1, the Scottish Rite and the Shriners.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy H. Walker; son, Steven Lewis Walker and wife, Ann Elizabeth of Charlotte; two stepdaughters, Donna Powell Barbre and husband, Tony, of Asheboro and Melinda Powell Wehbie and husband, David, of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Zachary Walker, Michael Barbre, Megan Barbre, Elliott Barbre, Amanda Wehbie and James Wehbie; three sisters, Lorraine Wystrik and husband, Gary, of Ormond Beach, Fla., Mary Ellen Padovano and husband, Jim, of Rio Verde, Ariz., and Eugenia Strickland of Marbury, Md.

Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Pinelawn Memorial Park, U.S. 70 West, in Kinston.

Pallbearers will be the men of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605-4277 or Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, 409 S. Fifth Ave., Wilmington, N.C. 28401.
