THOMASVILLE -- Roy Alexander "Sonny" Beard Jr., 51, brother of Becky Rogers of LaGrange, died Sunday.
He was a native of Kinston and been employed as a network security engineer for the National Finance Center in New Orleans. He and his wife, Gewel, moved from Slidell, La., to North Carolina when Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana.
In addition to his sister and his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Samantha Clapp of Winston-Salem; another sister, Deborah Phillips of Kinston; and three grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson Street, High Point. Interment will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
