Ann E. Hammack, 64, died on Thursday, Feb. 2, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

She was a former resident of SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Home of Mount Olive and Britthaven Nursing Home in Smithfield. Born on June 10, 1941, in Poplar Creek, Miss., she was the daughter of the late James Reid Philley and the late Clara Mae Oliver Philley Strickland and was the widow of James Hammack. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Ree Philley of Illinois and James Robert Philley of California.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Vincent of Goldsboro and Vela Cox of Adamsville, Tenn.; two brothers, Al Philley of Pine Bluff, N.C., and Dewey Philley of Rulesville, Miss; her maternal aunt, Stella Nervins of Spokane, Wash.; 10 nieces and four nephews; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday , Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at Wilsons Mills Advent Christian Church in Wilsons Mills. Pastor Jill Gonzalez conducted the service. The Ladies Auxiliary of Wilsons Mills Advent Christian Church served the family a meal at 6:30 p.m. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Mississippi.

Rhodes Funeral Home in Goldsboro served the family.
