ALTON LEO CORBETT

Mr. Alton Leo Corbett, 83, died Tuesday at Britthaven Nursing Home of Goldsboro.
A native of Wayne County, Mr. Corbett was the son of the late Mark C. Corbett and Clara Smith Corbett. A member of Woods Grove P.F.W.B. Church, he served as deacon, usher, trustee, and Sunday School superintendent. He was past president of the Wayne County Sunday School Association. Mr. Corbett graduated from New Hope High School and served in the United States Army. He was a retired livestock inspector with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. He served his community for 20 years as a volunteer fireman with Pinewood Fire Department and was active in the Pinewood Community Watch, as well as the New Hope Ruritan Club.
Mr. Corbett enjoyed gardening and was known by many as the "grape and collard man." He delighted in sharing the bounty of his harvest with family and friends and always gave a "heaping measure."
The funeral services will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Grady officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at other times at the residence, 2113 N. Berkeley Boulevard, Goldsboro, NC.
His surviving family includes his wife of 61 years, Ethel Hopewell Corbett; his daughter, Sandra Waddell and husband Jackie S. Waddell of Goldsboro; a grandson, Joel S. Waddell and wife Emily of Rosewood; his sisters, Edna Dubois, Norma Weaver, Janet Price and husband Griffin and Linda Edwards and husband Ronald, all of Goldsboro; and his brothers, Gene Corbett and wife Hester of Fuquay-Varina, Gordon Corbett and wife Jolene of Walhalla, S.C., and Gary Corbett and wife Joy of Goldsboro; and his sisters-in-law, Ruth Mozingo and husband Melvin of Goldsboro and Edna Hopewell of Goldsboro; a special niece, Virginia Hare of Goldsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Corbett was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Corbett Stewart, and his mother-in-law, Rena Hopewell; brothers-in-law, Joe DuBois, Jimmy Stewart, George Weaver, Bruce Hopewell, and Jim Hopewell; and sisters-in-law, Tiny Hopewell and Nora Holloman.
