LILLIAN BEAMON

Lillian Bishop Beamon, 82, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rev. Johnny Sasser and the Rev. Rudolph Rowe will officiate. Interment will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Beamon was born in Eastland County, Texas, to the late John Lee Bishop and Lillian Ruth Barrington Bishop. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Pikeville, where she was very active and had served as a Sunday school teacher, church secretary, member of the choir, member and past president of the ladies auxiliary, and director of Vacation Bible School.

She retired from Wayne County Public Schools, having taught at Virginia Street, Central, Carver, Belfast and Fremont schools. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Wayne County Senior Citizen's Center. Her hobbies included painting, reading and gardening.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Kenneth Dwain Beamon and his wife, Mary Bogue, of Tarboro and Bishop Dwight Beamon of Williamsburg, Va.; one daughter, Andrea Beamon Stephens and her husband, Curtis, of Goldsboro; one brother, Dale Bishop of Cross Plains, Texas; two sisters, Nelda Sullivan of Weatherford, Texas, and Juanice Adams of Odessa, Texas; seven grandchildren, Valerie Lynn Stephens, Karen S. Hagerman, Curtis W. Stephens III, Kenneth Dwain Beamon Jr., David Anthony Beamon, Susie Virginia Magill and Kevin Andrew Beamon; and four great-grandchildren, Calisa Ann Hagerman, Jacob Timothy Stephens, John Hayes Beamon and Andrew Lee Beamon.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beamon was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Andrew Beamon.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro, and other times at the residence at 306 South Street in Belfast.
