Cora Lynn Kirkman Caviness, 79, of 205 Woodside Drive, died Sunday at her home.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Floral Gardens in High Point, with Pastor Bill Wilson and Pastor John Earnest officiating.

Mrs. Caviness was born in Guilford County to the late Raymond Vance Kirkman and Nannie Adelia Richardson Kirkman and was the widow of Joseph Braxton Caviness. Mrs. Caviness was a secretary with Jefferson Standard - Pilot Life Insurance Company and had also served as a secretary in the Pentagon. She attended the Lord's Table and was active in the 55-plus ministry.

Surviving are her daughters, Georgia Wallace of Greensboro, Linda Booker and husband Stanley of Greensboro, Debbie Tapp and husband James of Volens, Va., and Adelia "Dee" Hann and husband Bill of Goldsboro; her son, Kim Joseph Smith and wife Scarlett of Greensboro; her sisters, Nancy Von Cannon, Emily Duncan and Ellen Hancock and husband Malhon, all of Greensboro; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Clark, and two brothers, R.V. Kirkman Jr. and Abe Kirkman.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
