KENLY -- Bobby Lou Rhodes, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Johnston County, he was born Nov. 28, 1931, and was son of the late Charlie Ru-fus Rhodes and Smithie Guin Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes retired from Ralston Purina after 34 years of faithful service and was a retired farmer. Before his illness, he was the inspiration and leader to the truck drivers at W.P. Rose Supply Company.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Whitfield and Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Webb Rhodes, and his daughters; Vickie Lou Rhodes Smith and husband Keith of the Rosewood Community and Linda Dale Rhodes Taylor and husband Gary of Snow Hill, and his son, Timothy Stephen (Timmy) Rhodes and wife Suzanne of the Rosewood Community; grandchildren, Melissa Smith (Lissa Bunker) Goodfellow and husband Gary, Little Keith Smith II, Heather Taylor Whitley and husband Greg, Jennifer Taylor Tingen and husband Jamie, Stephen Rhodes and Stephanie Rhodes; great grandchildren, Kayla Brooke Goodfellow, Kylie Michelle Goodfellow, Jacob Brooks Tingen, Kristen Blaire Goodfellow, Jesse Blake Tingen and Hannah Maylyn Whitley. He is also survived by his brothers, Ira Rhodes of Princeton and Jesse Rhodes of Goldsboro and his sisters, Susie Brock of Princeton, Bertha Pearson of Fayette-ville, Mary Overbee of Goldsboro, Smithie Tobin of Wallace , Imogene Swinson of Henderson; and several special nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his great-grandchild, Melissa Dawn Whitley; brothers, Billy Rhodes and J.L. Rhodes, and his sisters, Flonnie Bell Rhodes and Lillie Mae Rhodes Sutton.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memory of Bobby Rhodes, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Rhodes at 1459 Old Smithfield Road, Goldsboro.
