NEAL EAKINS

WILMINGTON -- Neal Graham Eakins, 89, formerly of Atkinson, died Friday at Davis Health Care.

She was born May 11, 1916 in Robeson County, and was the daughter of the late Archie H. and Lena Humphrey Graham.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John David Eakins Sr., in 1978.

Mrs. Eakins was a retired secretary from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She was a member of Atkinson Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Eakins Whitfield and husband, Doyle, of Dudley; her son, John David Eakins Jr. and wife, Reba, of Wilmington; four grandsons, Heath Whitfield and wife, Kim; Graham Whitfield and wife, Crystal; Dwayne Eakins; and Vann Eakins and wife, Beth; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Venson of Roseboro and Helen Downey of Springfield, Tenn.; and two brothers, Norman Graham of Richmond, Va. and Irvin Graham of Wallace.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Chapel in Burgaw. The Rev. Ottis King will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Park, following the visitation. Casketbearers will be Heath Whitfield, Graham Whitfield, Dwayne Eakins, Vann Eakins, Jimmy Eakins, and Jack Turner. Honorary casketbearer will be Wayne Horrell.

Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Burgaw is in charge of the arrangements.
