VANCE M. KELLY

Died Jan. 19, 2006

Vance Monroe Kelly, 80, formerly of 224 Banks Avenue in Goldsboro, died Thursday at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born in Lenoir County, he was the son of the Emerson and Everline Wilson Kelly and husband of the late Jesse Corey Kelly.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Steve Kelly and Mike Kelly.

He attended the New Life Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served aboard the U.S.S. Randolph. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Ribbon, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal with a Europe Clasp.

Mr. Kelly is survived by a son and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and wife, Betty Kelly of Ankeny, Iowa, Becky Kelly of Goldsboro, Loretta Kelly of Clayton; a brother, Rayford Kelly of Kinston; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, Goldsboro. The Rev. J. Lewis Baker officiated. Burial, with military honors, was in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family received friends at the funeral home during the hour prior to the service.
