LAGRANGE -- Janie Skinner Lane, 91, devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend, died Friday, January 6, 2006 at Britthaven Of Snow Hill.

Mrs. Lane was born in Lenoir County to the late Felix and Myrtle Rouse Skinner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Franklin "Dick" Lane; two sons, Felix Franklin Lane and Jimmie Thomas Lane; three sisters, Lillie Mae Boyd, Irene Herring and Edna Moye; and three brothers, Felix Skinner Jr., George Skinner and Marshall Skinner.

She was best known as "Mama Janie" to her family, friends and customers when she and her husband "Dick" operated Janie's Cafe for many years and later Dick's Grocery Store on West Boundary Street in LaGrange. Before her declining health,"Mama Janie" was an active member of White Oak Grove FWB Church where she participated in the Ladies Auxiliary and the Widow's Club.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 8, 2006 at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. The Rev. Greg Stancil will officiate. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Lane is survived by a caring, devoted and loving son, Richard Earl "Dickie" Lane; two daughters-in-law, Wilma Lane and Dorothy Lane; eight grandchildren, Frankie Lane and wife, Donna, Diane Stallard and husband, David, Dolores Potter and husband, Jerry, J.T. Lane and wife, Diane, Joe Lane and fiancee' Allison, Heather Reese and husband, Paul; 10 great-grandchildren and a special sister-in-law, Oneta Skinner.

The family will receive friends Sunday following the service and at other times they will be at the home of Dickie Lane, 405 South Caswell St., LaGrange.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to White Oak Grove FWB Church Building Fund, c/o Janet Brown, 1794 Jenny Lind Road, LaGrange, N.C., 28551.

Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
