C. TAYLOR HOOKS JR.

FREMONT -- Charles Taylor Hooks Jr., 71, a retired farmer, died Saturday after a lingering illness. He helped organize the Fremont Rescue Squad and had served on the Fremont Town Board and was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church.

Taylor loved his family, children, grandchildren and the coast.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles T. Hooks Sr., and Cora Yelverton Hooks, and a sister, Suzanne Hooks Hooks.

A funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fremont United Methodist Church. The Reverends Martin Armstrong and Doug Johnson officiated.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Griffin Hooks; daughter, Kim Craig (Bill) of Richmond, Va.; one son, Charles T. Hooks III (Lisa) of Pikeville; one sister, Betsy H. Johnson (Leroy) of New Bern; grandchildren, Suzanne Craig, Karen Craig, Christlee Hooks, and Charles "Chas" Hooks IV; brother-in-law, Michael L. Hooks of Goldsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will welcome friends and relatives in the church fellowship hall following the funeral and friends and relatives are also welcome to visit at the home, 208 Hooks Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Fremont United Methodist Church, PO Box 147, Fremont NC 27830.
