Gladys Conard Sparks, 78, of 104 Biltmore Drive, died Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jack Sauls officiating. Interment will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

Mrs. Sparks was born in Hartford, Tenn., to the late Homer S. Conard and Virgie Williamson Conard. She had worked for Wilber Shirley for 36 years as a waitress at Wilber's Barbecue.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Brown of Aurora, Colo., and Eyvonne Taylor of LaGrange; a son, Charles Sparks Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Rosewood; seven grandchildren, Darren Brown, Jennifer DeLamar, Kimberly Smith, Karen Smith, Jackie Sparks, Lisa Sparks and Kimberly Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Jaden DeLamar, Morgan Collins, Elizabeth Sather and Ashley Sather; two sisters, Edna Mae Murphy and Cindy Conard, both of Fletcher; a brother, Larry Conard of Fletcher; and her great aunt, Cindy Jenkins of Marion.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence
