Died Nov. 24, 2005

KINSTON -- John Lipscomb, 75, of 2170 Southwood Road, Kinston, died Thursday at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Ada Lipscomb; six brothers, Charlie, Edgar, Marvin, Daniel, Roy and Raymond Lipscomb, and two sisters Dorothy Lipscomb and Louise Lawhorn.

Mr. Lipscomb was a member of Southwood Volunteer Fire Depart-ment. He also was a member of Southwood Memorial Christian Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He retired from Overnite Transportation with over 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Tessie Turner Lipscomb of the home; one son, Terry Lipscomb, and his wife, Tammy, of Kinston; and his trusty canine companion, Mitsy.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Southwood Memorial Christian Church. The Rev. Ricky Vernon will officiate. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Southwood Memorial Christian Church or to Southwood Volunteer Fire Department.
